Taxi from Bikaner to Pushkar

Pushkar is roughly 285 km from Bikaner, about five to six hours via Nagaur, Merta City and Ajmer. The last stretch climbs over the Nag Pahar ridge and drops you into the valley with the lake at its centre — one of the better arrivals in Rajasthan.

The town itself is closed to most vehicles around the ghats, so your driver will park outside the restricted zone and you walk the last few minutes. He will tell you exactly where to meet him afterwards, and wait as long as you need.

Pushkar is 15 km from Ajmer Sharif, and nearly everyone combines the two. Say so when you book and we will plan the day to fit both without rushing either.

What to see in Pushkar

A half day covers the essentials; a full day lets you slow down.

• Brahma Temple — one of very few temples to Brahma anywhere
• Pushkar Lake and the 52 ghats — sunrise and sunset are the times to be there
• Savitri Mata Temple — on the hill, by ropeway or a steep climb, best at dawn
• Varaha Temple and the Rangji Temple
• The bazaar — leather, silver, textiles and the rose products Pushkar is known for
• Ajmer Sharif Dargah — 15 km away, easily added to the same trip

The Pushkar Camel Fair

For about a week each November, Pushkar holds the Pushkar Camel Fair — thousands of camels and horses, traders from across the desert, and a great deal of noise and colour. It is one of the genuine spectacles of Rajasthan and it fills the town completely.

If you are coming for the fair, book your car weeks ahead. Rooms go first and cars go soon after, traffic around the town is heavily restricted, and parking moves to ground well outside the centre. We will plan a realistic pickup point with you rather than promise a drop that the police will not allow on the day.
