This is the classic desert drive: about 330 km and 5 to 6 hours from Bikaner to Jaisalmer, usually via Kolayat, Phalodi and Pokhran. Long straight stretches, very little traffic, and windmills and dunes for company most of the way.

Time your departure for mid-morning and you reach Jaisalmer with enough light to get out to the Sam Sand Dunes for sunset — the single best thing to do on your first evening there.
