A proper day out in Bikaner

Bikaner rewards people who have a car for the day. The attractions are spread out — Deshnoke is 33 km south, Gajner is 32 km west, the camel centre is out past the university — and autos will not take you between them efficiently. A Bikaner sightseeing taxi for the day costs less than you would spend stitching the same trip together in pieces.

Our drivers live here. They will tell you that Karni Mata is best early before the crowds, that the camel centre's milk and ice cream are worth trying, that the good Bikaneri bhujia is not from the shop in front of the fort, and which of the old havelis you can actually walk into.

We quote a fixed price for the day based on the itinerary you want. No meter, no per-stop charges, no pressure to finish early.

What a full-day Bikaner tour covers

A standard full day fits most of this comfortably. Tell us what you care about and we will shape the route around it.

  • Junagarh Fort — the unconquered fort, with Anup Mahal and Phool Mahal; allow 2 hours
  • Karni Mata Temple, Deshnoke — the famous rat temple, 33 km south
  • National Research Centre on Camel — camel breeding farm, best in the late afternoon
  • Lalgarh Palace — red sandstone Indo-Saracenic palace and museum
  • Laxmi Niwas Palace — the heritage hotel wing, stunning stonework
  • Devi Kund Sagar — the royal cenotaphs, quiet and under-visited
  • Bhandasar Jain Temple — 15th-century, with the famous ghee-mortar story
  • Rampuria Havelis — the old city mansions and their carved facades
  • Gajner Palace & Wildlife Sanctuary — 32 km west, a lakeside half-day
  • Kolayat — Kapil Muni temple and the lake, 50 km out
  • Shri Laxminath Temple and the Kote Gate bazaar for bhujia and rasgulla

Practical notes for visitors

Best time to visit: October to March. April to June is genuinely hot — if you come then, start at 6 am, break between noon and 4 pm, and go back out in the evening. We plan the day that way automatically in summer.

At Karni Mata: shoes come off at the gate and there are rats underfoot — socks are a good idea. Spotting a white rat is said to be lucky.

Entry tickets and guide fees at monuments are not included in the taxi fare; your driver will tell you the current rates and can point you to licensed guides at Junagarh Fort.

Travelling onward? We also run Bikaner to Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur cabs, and full Rajasthan tour packages.

Yes, we pick up from any hotel, homestay, guest house or residential address in Bikaner, as well as Bikaner Junction railway station and Nal Airport.

October to March has the best weather. Summer is very hot, so if you travel between April and June we plan an early morning start, a long midday break and an evening session.
